To Everyone: Not Everything Is About You

This is written as a vague response to recent events that have been happening in Singapore.

➊ When someone loves someone else, it is none of your business. It is their love, and their story to tell. Their love story does not affect anyone outside of their relationship, and there is no reason why you should plant yourself in it to tell them that their love is not real, or that it offends you.

➋ When someone tells you to wear your masks properly, or even, to wear your mask, it isn’t about you. It is about the society and the safety of those around you. If you were sick or carrying any viruses, wearing a mask minimizes the amount of particles being transmitted to others. Even if you don’t care about falling ill or if you think you aren’t sick, wear a mask, just in case you’re a carrier.

➌ When someone fights for their own rights, they aren’t trying to take away your rights. If you’re a man, women fighting for their rights isn’t about you. This is about them asking for equal opportunities, and the right for them to make informed decisions for their own bodies. Their fight does not deprive you from living your normal daily lives.

➍ When someone tells you that they are offended, they are not trying to offend you. They are trying to tell you about their feelings toward certain actions that you have taken. There is no good reason for you to get offended by how someone feels. Listen to them, perhaps you’ll learn more about yourself too.

➎ When someone prays, it is about their beliefs, and it has nothing to do with you. Just as you probably do not wish for others to impose their beliefs onto you, you should not be finding the need to impose your beliefs (or non-belief) onto others. Read more about their beliefs if you must, or just simply offer them some basic respect. It will not kill you to take a step back.

Stop taking everything so personally, the world would be a better place.
